It's more challenging than X3 and Freelancer and feels more visceral. I have to say the combat feels really good since I've gotten used to it.

There ought to be some reward system to let you work and upgrade ships without spending cash - you know - like you'll be able to do in the Single Player game and PU when it comes out. I'm certainly not spending real monies to buy fake monies to put a gun on my ship. What I'd like is to mount a third gun on my front end, but there's no option to get one. I just can't take out 5 Vanduul at once without wingmen. There's a lot of technique to learn in fighting, but I'm getting better at skirting dangerously close to asteroids and dodging missiles.

Round 3: "Ah, fixed fighting without gimbal messing it up" Wave 6, back to fixed mounts, but with CTRL+C to lock the guns. Round 2: "So this is gimbal." - made it to Wave 3 - outfitted the test turret's gimbal to my wings and dumped the tractor beam. Round 1: "Why can't I hit anything?!" - killed 2 Vanduul, one by ramming My first round out was nice, but I could do better. Having two targeting systems borks trying to fly and shoot, and I use the Ctrl+C command to lock them together into one. The 315p comes with two fixed mounts, one on each wing, and a gimbal mount on the front. I've figured out my issue with combat since I fired this up - fixed weapons. Since it's a two man craft you can hire an NPC (or buy an additional character slot to have your own NPC) that you can assign to things like engineering and tailgunner positions.Īlso, depending on how tough it might be to schedule, you could always put me in your contact list and I could escort you with my Freelancer MIS. Unlike the larger exploration craft, the Constellation Aquila or the Carrack, it will be able to take any jump point you might find. The 315P won't allow you to go as far nor bring back as much loot/treasure/alien tech as the DUR can.Īn additional benefit is that it's the largest ship that will be able to traverse the smallest jump points. It's a two person exploration focused craft with extended range fuel tanks that will not only allow you to get out there and find cool stuff, but it also has the cargo capacity to bring back that neat stuff in your cargo hold. Given your specifications, the only other ship I would recommend for you would be the Freelancer DUR. This will allow me to fill any empty spots with one of my two remaining NPC character slots. Much like you, I plan on soloing in this game as much as possible which is why every ship I own is a one or two person ship (the Freelancer MIS being an exception with a max crew of 3). Of course, you could always pick up the Black now, wait for the Vanguard to come out and then melt the Black for credits to buy either the SH or the Vanguard if you wanted. So, my recommendation would be to wait to see what the Vanguard will be like before considering the Super Hornet and, to scratch the cargo + fighter itch, to consider the Cutlass Black. While it is currently under-performing, it is expected to be much better after the next patch. Heavily armed and maneuverable, this ship also has the highest cargo capacity of the Cutlass class with 150 FUs.Ĭurrently, the Cutlass is undergoing some rework due to some control issues with the latest patch. The Blue is a police cruiser so comes standard with holding cells but is more heavily armed than the Red but it too has 120 FUs worth of cargo capacity.įinally, there is the Cutlass Black, AKA: The Pirate Cutlass. The Cutlass Red is a dedicated Search & Rescue craft so comes loaded with medical bays and autodocs which doesn't leave much room for cargo (120 FUs). No cargo stats are listed but the description specifically mentions replacing the bomb bay with a cargo pod. The Gladiator is also a two seater but it's a bomber, not a fighter. The Super Hornet is, indeed, an excellent fighter but there are, perhaps, better fighters coming online later this years such as the Vanguard (previously named the Bulldog) which is a long range, two seater fighter craft but it's unknown if it will have much room for cargo. The standard Hornet is the only one capable of carrying any cargo of the Hornet line-up and it barely carries any (4 FU) so I would rule that out.

The Auroras can carry 16 Freight Units (Keep in mind that their cargo system and FUs are in a constant state of flux during development) which matches the 300 series so their are equal in capacity but the 325 would be the top fighter out of that grouping. If you are looking for something that can fight and carry a modest amount of cargo I would think that maybe one of the Cutlass ships might be a good choice.
